Week 1 – Foundations (Sit & Down)

WEEK ONE IS DONE!

Congratulations on surviving your first class! Week 1 can be a bit overwhelming as it’s a LOT of information we start the course off with. However, these foundations will help you build a successful obedience partnership with your dog.

REMEMBER:

Down and Off are two different commands.
Down means lie down.
Off means get off people or furniture.

👉 If your dog jumps up on someone or onto furniture, always say “Off” — not “Down“.

HOMEWORK:

CONSISTENCY

Don’t repeat commands. Say it once, then wait.

Everyone
in the household should use the same commands and training techniques.

PRACTICE

SIT: Use before meals, before clipping on the leash, before throwing a toy, etc.

DOWN: Use during family meals, while watching a movie, or when you want to practice a calm, relaxed dog.

GREETING GUESTS once everyone is settled down.

Next Week: Focus & Reliability (Come)
