WE’RE HALFWAY THERE!
Week two is under our belts and hopefully we’re starting to find a routine to our class. Week one bombarded us with a lot of information and week two focused the two most common things dog owners want their dogs to do: come when called and listen reliably.
REMEMBER:
Down and Off are two different commands.
Down means lie down.
Off means get off people or furniture.
👉 If your dog jumps up on someone or onto furniture, always say “Off” — not “Down“.
HOMEWORK:
CONSISTENCY
Consistency is what makes reliable obedience.
Remember to follow through no matter what. If your dog did not come to you, you’d better go get them!
Don’t keep calling them if they don’t come; it will weaken your command.
PRACTICE
Keep practicing the skills you learned last week, but add:
COME: keep practicing recall at random; don’t set your dog up for recall but instead set them up for success in the real-world!
AUTOMATIC SIT: Don’t give up the reward until your dog sits where you want them to in front of you. Remember; automatic sit is PART OF the recall command (don’t say “sit”)!
